Contains photographs of the following military units: 69th Infantry Regiment, 418th Infanty Regiment, 37th Infantry Regiment, 12th Infantry Regiment. General description of the collection: The Edward Lorenzo Hooper photograph collection contains mostly photographs which deal with his service in the Philippines prior to World War I. There are numerous photos of his West Point years. Subsequent to those are his service at various posts such as Fort McIntosh, Texas, and Mount Gretna, Pennsylvania. The majority of the photographs in this rather large holding are of natives, native activities, villages, and scenery in the Philippine Islands. Hooper was an amateur photographer and he was prolific with his use of the camera. In numerous cases, the same photo appears in different sizes and on different kinds of print paper. He also experimented with color tinting of photographs. There are some military subjects taken while in the Philippines, many dealing with test firing the cold water cooled machine gun. Also among his photos are many he took in Hawaii, along the Massachusetts Coast (especially in and around Gloucester), sites in California, and at national parks in the West, the Buffalo New York World's Fair, and Niagara Falls. There are only a very few dealing with his World War I service and post-war service. There are numerous portrait photos of himself and his wife and family.

Edward Lorenzo Hooper was a United States (U.S.) Army soldier. He graduated from the United States Military Academy (USMA) West Point, New York, with the Class of 1904. His branch was infantry. He served in World War I with the 10th Division, American Expeditionary Force (AEF). He retired from the military with the rank of colonel in 1942.
